Forward deployed product manager salary
A forward deployed product manager in the US is paid $130,000 to $345,000, on the six bands four employers published on 16 October 2026. Four of the six bands start at $170,000 or more, and all six postings mention equity on top.
I'm Hayat Amin. I spent twenty years as a technology chief financial officer, sold three companies from that seat, and I now work as a forward deployed engineer myself. This morning I typed forward deployed product manager into Google from the US. Salary was the third completion, and cresta forward deployed product manager salary completes on its own. So instead of quoting an aggregator, I read every band the employers printed on their own job boards today.

The six published bands
These are the bands as printed, US locations only, read on 16 October 2026. I counted a role if forward deployed and product sit together in the title. Scale AI, Ode and Anduril print base salary. Cresta prints on target earnings, which includes any variable pay, so its numbers read a little higher than the base would be.
- Cresta, Associate Forward Deployed Product Manager, US remote. $130,000 to $170,000 on target earnings. Asks for 2 or more years.
- Anduril, Senior Product Manager, Forward Deployed, in Washington, DC, Costa Mesa and Seattle. $166,000 to $220,000.
- Cresta, Forward Deployed Product Manager, AI Agent, US remote. $170,000 to $280,000 on target earnings. Asks for 5 or more years in technology consulting or similar.
- Ode with Anthropic, Forward Deployed Product Manager, and the same title in Financial Services, San Francisco or New York. $200,000 to $275,000 plus equity on both.
- Scale AI, Forward Deployed Product Manager, Enterprise, New York. $240,000 to $300,000 for San Francisco, New York and Seattle.
- Scale AI, Forward Deployed Product Manager, Public Sector, New York and Washington, DC. $210,000 to $345,000 in San Francisco, New York and Seattle, and $200,000 to $311,000 in Washington, DC, Texas, Colorado and Hawaii.
Take the midpoint of each and the middle of the six lands at about $231,000. That's the number I'd use as a first anchor for a mid level hire in New York. It isn't a market average, because six postings at four companies is a small sample and every one of them is an AI or defence company.
Two names are missing on purpose. OpenAI had 802 open roles on its board this morning and none with forward deployed product manager in the title. Anthropic's main board had 654 and none either. Anthropic's version of the job sits at Ode, its services arm, which is where the $200,000 to $275,000 comes from. I wrote up what the role involves in what is a forward deployed product manager.
Does forward deployed add a premium?
Scale AI is the cleanest test, because it posts both titles with bands. Its Forward Deployed Product Manager, Enterprise pays $240,000 to $300,000. Its Product Manager, Enterprise Core Platform pays $240,000 to $300,000, the same band. Its Public Sector forward deployed role carries $210,000 to $345,000, which is the band on its Staff Product Manager, Agentic Platform. At Scale the level sets the pay. The forward deployed part changes where you sit and who you answer to.
I found the same pattern when I read Amazon's postings for FDE vs SDE. The base band matched at each level, and the difference showed up in travel.
Product manager or engineer, which pays more?
It depends on the company. At Cresta the senior engineer and the product manager overlap. Its Senior Forward Deployed Engineer, AI Agent, US remote, pays $185,000 to $235,000 base plus an annual bonus, against $170,000 to $280,000 on target earnings for the product role. At Palantir, in New York, the nearest equivalent to the product manager is the Deployment Strategist, at $110,000 to $170,000, while the Forward Deployed Software Engineer gets $135,000 to $200,000. I compared those two Palantir teams in Palantir Delta vs Echo.
At Ode the engineering band is higher but it's a different level. Its Staff Software Engineer in San Francisco and New York is $275,000 to $400,000, which you'd compare with a staff product role, not the $200,000 to $275,000 one.
London has no published number
I checked three London postings for the same work. Scale AI's Forward Deployed Product Manager, Enterprise, Cresta's EMEA role, remote in the United Kingdom, and Palantir's London Deployment Strategist. None prints a salary, while every US posting I counted does. So a London figure you read online is someone's estimate, not the employer's band.
What I'd pay, if you're hiring
If you run a company of 50 to 500 people, you're competing for this person with Scale AI and Anthropic, and $231,000 plus equity is what they'll compare you with. Most companies that size don't need a full time hire. They need one person for three to six months to find the work worth doing, connect the systems and leave the team running it.
That's what I do through Beyond Elevation, my firm. I come in as the forward deployed engineer, sit with the people doing the work, decide with you what's worth automating and price it before anything gets built. The scope is at meethayat.com/services/fde.
About Hayat Amin
I'm Hayat Amin, and I've spent twenty years in technology, most of them as a chief financial officer in companies growing faster than their systems. I sold three of them from that seat, with American Express and TripAdvisor among the buyers, and carried three FT 100 fastest growing listings along the way.
I'm exceptional at pricing a role and the work behind it before anyone signs, because the finance seat is where those numbers get defended. I connect the systems in a company that were never built to talk to each other, build the AI operations on top of them myself, and put the result in a live dashboard a chief executive can run the week on. I also value and monetise the intellectual property and data a company already owns, and I sit beside founders from the first conversation to the wire transfer on an exit.
I'm available now for fractional chief financial officer and AI operations work through Beyond Elevation.

Questions people actually ask
What is the forward deployed product manager salary?
On the six US bands four employers published on 16 October 2026, pay runs from $130,000 to $345,000. The lowest is Cresta's Associate Forward Deployed Product Manager at $130,000 to $170,000 on target earnings. The highest is Scale AI's Public Sector role at $210,000 to $345,000 in New York, San Francisco and Seattle. The middle of the six bands sits at about $231,000, and all six postings mention equity on top.
What does Cresta pay a forward deployed product manager?
Cresta lists its Forward Deployed Product Manager, AI Agent role, remote in the US, at $170,000 to $280,000 on target earnings, plus equity, and asks for 5 or more years of experience. Its Associate Forward Deployed Product Manager is $130,000 to $170,000 and asks for 2 or more years. The EMEA version of the role, remote in the United Kingdom, does not print a band.
How much does Ode with Anthropic pay a forward deployed product manager?
Both of Ode's forward deployed product manager postings, the general one and the Financial Services one, list $200,000 to $275,000 plus equity for San Francisco or New York. Ode says it typically looks for 4 or more years in product and consulting, client management or product implementations.
Is a forward deployed product manager paid more than a normal product manager?
Not at Scale AI, which posts both titles with bands. Its Forward Deployed Product Manager, Enterprise and its Product Manager, Enterprise Core Platform both list $240,000 to $300,000. The forward deployed label changes where the person sits, and the level sets the pay.
What is the forward deployed product manager salary in London?
I couldn't find one published. Scale AI's London Forward Deployed Product Manager, Enterprise, Cresta's EMEA role and Palantir's London Deployment Strategist postings print no figure, so any London number you see online is an estimate, not a band from the employer.
Where these numbers come from
Every band is copied from the employer's own posting, read through the public Greenhouse, Ashby and Lever job board feeds on 16 October 2026. Scale AI, Cresta and Anduril post on Greenhouse, OpenAI and Ode with Anthropic on Ashby, and Palantir on Lever. The role counts for OpenAI and Anthropic are the totals on those feeds the same morning. The midpoint of about $231,000 is my own arithmetic on the six US bands. Google autocomplete was read from the US this morning.
